Other Interests

I enjoy the company of my family and spend as much time as possible with them.
I am involved in a number of outdoor pursuits including multi sport, mountaineering and skiing. Prior to the arrival of two children, holidays and weekends were often spent in the outdoors, skiing in winter and rock and alpine climbing in summer. I have climbed many of the major mountains in New Zealand and am a member of the New Zealand Alpine Club.
I have traveled abroad to Europe and Asia, the Middle East and North America.
I enjoy the present challenges involved in raising my eighteen-year old daughter, who has autistic spectrum disorder, fine and gross motor coordination problems and a mild intellectual disability, and my ‘normal’ sixteen-year old son.
I enjoy sharing and adapting my outdoor experiences with my husband and children. Together with family and friends we enjoy skiing, camping and related outdoor activities.
I am a board member of Autism New Zealand, a former Chairperson of Disabled Snowsports New Zealand and have an interest in Special Olympic NZ (equestrian and snow sports). I was a member of the Disability Advisory Committee for the Otago and Southland DHBs until the merger.
